Edward "Red" Summey, age 91, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016.
Mr. Summey was born on March 10, 1925 in Cartersville, GA son of the late Columbus Summey and Ardle Fowler Summey.
Mr. Summey proudly served his country for three years in the United States Army during World War II under General George Patton in the 773rd Field Artillery Battalion "Long and Deadly." Edward "Red" Summey, age 91, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016.
Mr. Summey was born on March 10, 1925 in Cartersville, GA son of the late Columbus Summey and Ardle Fowler Summey.
Mr. Summey proudly served his country for three years in the United States Army during World War II under General George Patton in the 773rd Field Artillery Battalion "Long and Deadly." He landed on Normandy Beach when he was only eighteen years old and he fought in all of the major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. He and his loving wife of almost seventy years, Ann, enjoyed traveling across the country to attend Army reunions each year. He enjoyed working with his hands and was a self employed automobile mechanic, working until he was nearly eighty-five years old. Red was a charter member of LifePoint Congregational Methodist Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. Some of his ministries were helping anyone in need of auto repair and also visiting the elderly in nursing homes. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and always rooted for #3, Dale Earnhardt.
Red is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, J.L. (Laura), Willard (Gladys), James (Laurene) and Wallace (Margaret) Summey.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Summey; son, Charles (Robin) Summey; grandchildren, Melinda Green, Kenny (Kayla) Green; great-grandson, Kenton Green; brothers, Glenn (Ruth) Summey and Larry (Margaret) Summey; sister, Bernice (Bob) Lewis; a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 1st of December, 2016 at LifePoint Church, with Pastors, Nathan Sanders, Kenny Green and Carles Fletcher officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with military honors presented.
Serving as pallbearers are Ernie Parr, Jerry Summey, Kenneth Chitwood, Rodney Martin, Terry Lee Mundy and Wayne Thacker.
Honorary Pallbearers are the men of Legacy Life Group of LifePoint Church and special friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the evening until eight on Wednesday, the 30th of November, 2016 at Owen Funeral Home.
